Washington: America's technology giants Google revealed the Pixel 5A 5G officially, a phone which it had somehow announced in April that rumours were reversed.

The Verge reports that it has a small list of upgrades in comparison with its predecessor, 4A 5G, including a slightly larger screen, a considerably larger battery and a water resistance IP67 rating.

Although few, they are important tweaks to an already good intermediate phone, and the best part is that the price has fallen. This is USD 449 (approximately Rs 33,000), less than the introductory price of Pixel 4A 5G. The 5A is to be sold on August 26 in the United States and Japan.

The screen of the Pixel 5A has slightly increased to 6.34 inches, up from the 6.2-inch display of 4A 5G. Despite rumours of a faster 90Hz screen it still has a 1080p OLED with a standard 60Hz refresh rate.

The battery has increased to 4680mAh, up from 3,885mAh, a total of one day or two with the Extreme Battery Saver mode, which was said by Google.

The 5A is the first pixel in the A Series to obtain an official rating for water resistance. The phone can withstand immersion in water up to three feet for up to 30 minutes by means of IP 67 protection. This is unusual in the sub-USD 500 class, which has very few IP ratings.

The Pixel 5A will still provide the 5G sub-6GHz support. Unlike last year, Google won't sell a phone version that supports mmWave. This is no big loss — mmWave 5G is very rapid, but the range is very small and difficult to find.

Unfortunately, according to The Verge, 5A also has no support for C-band 5G frequencies, which are to be used globally by some network services at the end of this year for strengthening their difficult 5G networks. Google has said that it can add the needed support for software later but will not undertake to.

Specifications other than the previous model remain unchanged. It still uses a 6GB RAM and 128GB stored Snapdragon 765G chipset. The main and ultra-wide 16-megapixel 12.2-megapixel rear and the front 8-megapixel camera are the same.

It includes a biometric unlocking rear-fingerprint scanner, a headphone jack and an 18W loading device, but Google said it would be the final pixel phone to offer one.

The phone ships Android 11 and guarantees Google's standard update and security patch support for three years of OS platform.
