Theaters have reopened in many districts, following various residential and COVID-19 regulations. Many films re-announce their new release dates a few days ago. The two major national demands, RRR and KGF Chapter: 2.
The RRR is headed by SS Rajamouli and includes Jr. NTR and Ram Charan in the lead role. As it is Rajamouli's fastest film after Baahubali 2, there are high expectations for it. The makers announced that the release would take place on October 23, if there are no further closures in the country.
On the flip side, KGF 2 is the success of its most successful segment. There is a lot of hype in this movie three years ago. Initially, the makers announced that it would hit the screens on July 16. But that did not happen because of the second lock. A new release date is yet to be announced.
Despite the opening of cinema halls, many of them still operate with 50% residency rules. Major markets such as Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu will reopen stadiums. Meanwhile, experts say a third wave is inevitable and India will testify in one lakh cases per day in October.
These factors make viewers and commentators question the release of these two major ones. There is no chance for them to opt for OTT output. They will certainly bring out theaters, but only when the whole world opens up with 100% seating. That can only happen by mid-2022.
