PUBG Mobile Korea claimed in a statement that it did so to improve the game's service in the region. “The KRJP build is a version of the local service designed for users in Korea and Japan. Your local version or global version is available for people who live in different countries or areas. The following would be implemented, taking into account the local cultures and issues of each country and region, and in order to provide the best possible service. Please note that all of these adjustments are for the benefit of the player, and have nothing to do with inequity or discrimination,” PUBG Mobile KR wrote on Instagram.
The news isn't good for Indian gamers, since they won't be able to log in to the PUBG Mobile Korea edition after July 1st, forcing them to rely on the Global version. They'll need a VPN and the global version to get access to it. Those who do not have access to a VPN will have to wait until PUBG Mobile is relaunched in India.
With cheap data rates and affordable mobile devices, online multiplayer mobile games like PUBG Mobile shot to popularity. However, the Indian government, amid escalating tensions with China following a border dispute, banned the game due to its Chinese ownership, citing data privacy concerns in September 2020. Since then, the game developers have made multiple attempts to relaunch it in India but haven’t been successful.
